My Favourite Place
We started this workshop by talking about the elements of art.
These are;
Line, Shape, Colour, Form, Value, Texture and Space.
After talking about the elements of art we had a talk about their favourite place, and the people they share this space with.
It was great to hear everyone's favourite place. Children's imagination is so vivid when talking about all these places.
It makes them happy to recall on this memories by bringing them to life through their drawings

Mural Under the Sea
A great activity to work with children of different ages. We start talking about the ocean and the different creatures that live in it. And then let their imagination go and start drawing.
After they are finished, we cut them and put them on the mural background. It makes the classroom colourful and vibrant.
Materials:Black PaperChalk PastelsScissorsBlue tack
- First of all the children have to draw their fishes, turtles, sea horses or any other ocean animal they like.
Chicken Masks
There comes a time during the year that we have to make masks for the children. This is an easy version of chicken masks. I did this activity with senior infants.
I do advise to cut the masks yourself and the beak to save time.
Materials:
Cardboard or a cereal box
Yellow Crepe Paper
Orange felt for the beak and red felt for the top part on the head. Black felt for the eyes
Glue
brushes for glue
Pipe cleaners

- After we have the mask shape cut off, we are going to spread white glue all over the surface to work. We place black felt on top of the eyes, making sure to open a small holes in both eyes for the child to be able to see.
- We tear a bit of crepe paper and we turn it into a small ball, then we stick it on. Trying to cover the whole surface and not leaving any white spaces.
- We then place a bit of glue and then red felt on the top of the head, and cut it.
- We use Pipe Cleaners to keep tie the mask on their heads.
- And now its ready to be used for any play or Nativity activity.

A Heart Mobil
We continue with our Valentines activities.
Materials:
Cardboard
Tissue Paper of different colours
Scissors
Glue
Plaster of Paris
Moulds for Plaster of Paris
Fairy Liquid soap
Water
Wool
- First of all we draw a heart on a piece of cardboard or cereal box, I love using recyclable materials because we reuse them instead of throwing them away.
- Afterwards we chose what colours we want for the heart, after we have chosen the colours we tear in small pieces the paper and make a small ball that will be glued onto the heart.
- Covering all the parts of the heart and be careful not to leave any blank spaces.
- The heart should look like this, and remember both surfaces of the heart should be covered.
- For the second part of our project, we cover with Fairy Liquid Soap the moulds of hearts so they wont stick to it.
- After you have done that mix 3 parts of Plaster of Paris with two parts of water and mix it well with a spatula watching carefully that there are no lumps in the mixture.
- When the mixture is ready pour it over the hearts.
- Let them dry for 40 to 50 minutes.
- After they are dry, take them out of the moulds and they are ready to be painted.
- And voila here is the finished mobil.
In here we are using different materials to make this activity. We are covering the areas of construction, painting, fabric, clay or plaster of Paris.
Good for working fine motor skills, imagination, hand and eye connection and the use of various materials.
